Svenska Skolan

This afternoon I told the kids we were going to a Swedish "after-school-activity"-group. I didn't want to say that we were actually going to the "Swedish School", but that's where we were headed!
Yes! There is such a thing here in Abu Dhabi! A Swedish school!

They meet once a week and they follow a special curriculum of complementing studies, set out by the Swedish school board, and with Swedish teachers. It's in an informal and relaxed setting, at a school 10 minutes from us. The sessions go for two hours, with a 30 minute break in the middle.

Today they started by practicing a song ("Idas sommarvisa", guess if I had a tear in my eye...") they are going to perform at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair next week, where Sweden is the country guest of honour! Then they made cards for one of the teachers who is leaving to go back to Sweden to have a baby. Linnea and Lucas participated in that activity too:

I think both Lucas and Linnea mostly enjoyed break time! With "fika" of course! :)

They finished today's session by presenting their handmade cards to the teacher leaving:

The school is for children from 6-12 years old, and they were divided in two groups. One for the 6-8 year olds, and one for the 9-12 year olds. Unfortunately they only have two more occasions left this term, but we will be sure to sign up for next year!
