Fettisdag

On Tuesday it was Fettisdag (=Shrove Tuesday) and in Sweden that means - we eat semlor. A semla is a small, wheat flour bun, flavoured with cardamamom and filled with almond paste and whipped cream. One of my favourite pastries of all time!

Traditionally you ate these semlor as the last festive food before the Christian fasting period of Lent. Although with time Swedes have stopped observing lent and nowadays these semlor are on sale in the bakeries and shops already from shortly after Christmas. While I was in Sweden in January for my birthday, I managed to have one each day!

Here they are a bit more rare to come by of course, but on Tuesday I was invited to join the other SWEA ladies for a bit of a feast, as one of the girls had baked semlor for us for Fettisdagen.

They were delicious, yum yum!

An added bonus this morning was the amazing view from this apartment in the Landmark Tower. Oaw! Look at the colours of the sea.
