Öland here we come!

Our first away trip for the summer was to the island of Öland on the east coast of Sweden. We were only going to stay away for a long weekend, but it looked like we were moving in for a month at least..! :) That's packing for Swedish summer weather, you never know what you'll need.

Mormor and Morfar drove us there in the house truck. Nice service!

At a coffee stop along the way we saw cute ducklings.

We also stopped in at one of the glassworks in the Kingdom of Crystal (Glasriket), the glass capital of Sweden which is nestled in the deep, dark forests of the province of Småland. There are some 14 glassworks here where they have been making glass since 1742. We stopped at the Målerås Glasbruk, and although I love glass, I didn't buy anything.

By the time we reached Ölandsbron, one of the longest bridges in all of Europe measuring 6,072m, the weather had turned grey and it had started raining, boooo.

Time to cross Ölandsbron, quite exciting!

Our target was the Talludden Camping, where we had rented a small cabin for the weekend, to meet up with our Danish friends the Pedersen-Jensens who were there for the week. It had been a few years now since we last caught up, so it was really good to see them!

We know these friends from our time in Horsham, but now the family lives in Jylland and Lars commutes to fly for EasyJet out of Berlin. He had brought German bubbly with gold specks in it, for us to enjoy on our arrival!

How the kids had grown!!

The first night we were joined by another Danish family who also used to live in Horsham when we did, it was a really nice night catching up out on the deck.

Then we retreated to our little cabin, or "our bedroom" as Lucas called it, for the night. Rather cosy though, especially when the rain started thundering down in the middle of the night!
