On Sunday I went on yet another road trip up to Dubai, together with my colleague Ann. We had got tickets for a book talk during the Emirates Lit Fest, with the author of the book 'The Untold Story of the Cartiers'. A book I studied heavily in preparation for the Cartier Exhibition. We were really excited!
Francesca Cartier Brickell is the great-granddaugher of Jacques Cartier, one of the three brothers who turned Cartier into the global luxury icon it still is today.
She talked about the many stories of her book, which she had spent over ten years researching for while travelling the world in the footsteps of her grandfather, his father and his uncles.
This piece in the middle, the 'Eye of the Tiger' turban ornament, is currently on display in our exhibition at the Louvre Abu Dhabi!
Even though I recognised nearly all of the anecdotes she mentioned, from the book, it was nice to hear her talk in her own way about her family history. I got some new stories to add to my tour!
Of course we lined up afterwards to get our copies of the book signed, and have a little chat! Turns out she had come incognito to the museum last month, and visited the exhibition without getting a tour. What a shame!
