During the summer the theme changed in the Children's Museum. This is something that happens every two years, so it is quite a big thing with a new exhibition. This time it evolves around space, and the new theme is called 'Picturing the Cosmos'.
It is absolutely fantastic! The children get to go on a mission on three levels, from earth, all the way to space and to a Mars training camp.
First they get to explore how the understanding of the cosmos was not based on scientific evidence, but on direct observations of the night sky. Various representations of this showcase this universal curiousity and interest for the mystery of the cosmos.
Planets, the sun, moon and the stars are part of an imaginary. The mystery of the sky is the foundation of narratives about the creation of the world.
The scientific study of the cosmos have progressed hugely throughout history. The children get to discover many of the different tools and instruments that have been used throughout time.
This is a kamal, used by Arab sailors from the 9th century onwards. A celestial navigation tool.
On the second floor, the children get to go into space. Here they get to see the same space suit as the one worn by Emirati astronaut Hazza Al Mansouri on his mission to the ISS in 2019.
I loved the Infinity Room!
Great signs for the bathrooms!
I would recommend everyone to visit this exhibition. It's interesting and good fun for both children and those still young at heart. Anyone who would like to learn more about space, or discover how it has been depicted in art, would really enjoy this new set-up at the Children's Museum.
