There was a small museum to explore, the Vänersborg Museum, so after a sturdy (or not...) café breakfast we started there. The perfect place for two tour guides!
This museum is quite particular, it's the oldest preserved museum in Sweden. It was built in 1885 and since it's the oldest purpose-built museum in the country it is like a museum over how museums used to look. Here you get a feeling of how the world looked like in 1880's fashion.
Just the building itself was worth the visit!
The museum houses plenty of exotic collections, brought back to Sweden by explorers from all over the globe. The founder of the museum, Adolf Andersohn, wanted to show visitors just how magnificent the world was.
The museum had a competition for the kids to take part in, so they went off together looking for specific objects and art, and Carin & I got some peace to enjoy the collections... win-win!
Personally I'm no big fan of stuffed animals, no matter how exotic or rare they are. They give me the shudders! On the other hand I really enjoyed the small Ancient Egypt Exhibit, since that is something I can connect to parts of our collection at the Louvre Abu Dhabi.
The Porcelain Exhibit:
Linnea and a display of Carl von Linné:
This room was probably the most interesting for me, the Museum History Exhibit; about the museums scientific and historical background. Here a constructed example of how the Wonder Cabinets of the 17th century could've looked like.
Happy tour guides!
