Waitangi Day Lunch

Today is Waitangi Day (a NZ public holiday held each year on 6 February to celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, New Zealand's founding document, on that date in 1840), and we celebrated it today together with a couple of hundred other Kiwis, at the Stills Bar at Yas.

They had decorated very Kiwi all around the outdoor area, with NZ flags, 'Buzzy Bees' in the trees, cardboard pukekos in the bushes and silver ferns as table mats.

We got very yummy lunch, there was a little bit of everything; fish and chips, lamb chops, yummy salads, mashed potato etc etc. And for dessert, pavlovas of course - and hokey-pokey ice cream! Mmm!

The newly appointed NZ Ambassador was there and gave a bit of a speech, before they finished off the official part of the celebrations with a haka, of course! Don't ask me how Lucas got roped into participating, but he did a good job!
