¡Hola Picasso!

Kristinehamn might not exactly be a tourist hot spot but there was certainly enough things for us to keep us busy, for the few days we were there. We chose the eastern part of Vänern this time purely because last time we did a trip together, we stayed on the western shores.

The main attraction of Kristinehamn is without a doubt the large Picasso sculpture situated beautifully a few kilometers out of the city center, on the shore of Lake Vänern.

We had planned to make a whole morning out of it and walk along the sea out to the sculpture and back, but since it was raining (ever so slightly), we chose to go by car. Turned out to be a good decision, because once we reached the sculpture the rain became heavier. Luckily we got some great shots before the largest of the downpours, even though you can see the grey skies and the looming rain in the photos.

It is hard to show how tall and big this sculpture actually is, but here below is a photo of Lucas just next to it, so you can get an idea. It is very impressive!

This is actually considered the world's largest work of art by Pablo Picasso. It is 15 meters high and the largest wing of the sculpture weighs about 8 tonnes. It is named 'Jacqueline' after Picasso's second wife. It was revealed here in the summer of 1965.

Carin and I really loved this excursion, obviously, but the kids actually seemed to enjoy it too, in their own way of course.

Next to the sculpture there was a small house with a display presenting the history of the sculpture, how it was constructed but also the story about how it ended up here in Kristinehamn. Rather fascinating!
