International Tourist Day 2020

On the 21st February it is International Tourist Day, and this year again we were invited by the Department of Culture and Tourism here in Abu Dhabi, to celebrate together!

Just like last year, there was so many of us. It is really nice to get an opportunity to come together like this, as we normally don't work "together" as such; a part from spending your time with your guests obviously, it is a job where you are on your own. It's nice to meet like this every now and then to experience that feeling of belonging.
We started with networking and coffee, and selfies of course..:

This year there wasn't a lot of speeches nor any awards, instead we were all to take part in a team building exercise! We got split into 12 groups and had to find our teams each by a table. They then briefed us that we were going to paint! Each group had three canvas, which in their turn would form each a piece of a bigger motif when all done. So we had to figure out how to work together in our groups, but also try and find who had the canvas next to us so that the colours would be mixed in the same way and stay continuous across the whole motif.

At first it seemed like quite an ambitious task to throw on us, but then we all got into it and the creative juices started flowing. It was actually quite nice to concentrate and create!

My team:

I was on the same table as the lovely Houda, an Emirati tour guide who I have been following on Instagram for quite a while. She has a lovely account (@houda_tourguide); ha ha, made me almost a little bit star struck to meet her!

After a few hours we had some more coffee while the organisers set the artwork up outside, and then it was time for the big reveal.

Here's the full canvas, made up out of 36 pieces!

A group photo, of course! I'm on the far right, sitting down:

And then finally it was time for dinner, still able to enjoy it outside, gorgeous!

And we got goodie bags this year too! Thank you DCT for a great afternoon!
