The reason we stayed on the Southbank was that the friends we were going to visit were not yet home and we were going to spend our first day on our own. So we had planned to spend that at the National Gallery of Victoria which was a 5 minute walk from the hotel.
They had a special exhibition on by Yayoi Kusama, but I had forgot that in the real world you need to book your time slot to enter, and of course there were no time slots left this day.
A shame that I didn't think of that earlier, but at least we could see the rest of the museum without having booked. And there was so much to see!
Swedish artist Alexander Roslin painted the portrait behind me, of Count Andrey Kyrillovich Razumovsky:
A whole wall of Picasso:
Scandinavia represented, here Norwegian artist Edvard Munch with his artwork Early Spring:
One of my favourite artworks, by Henry Moore:
I loved this room, it reminded me of the red room in our Impressionist exhibition. It had so much to look at, and also a few very familiar pieces by Rodin.
This self-portrait by Carel Weight also caught my eye for the longest time. I was not familiar with this artist before, but sure will study him more now. I really liked this.
Another Swedish artist behind me, Eugène Jansson:
Selfie in the Mickey, by Li Lihong:
Missing Kusama aside, disappointing sure, but we had a great visit to the rest of the National Gallery. I took a lot more photos than I have posted here, but they will be for another time.
