Dubai Marina

Last week was school holiday and we felt like we needed a bit of change of scenery. There was only two days were we were all off together, but we made the most of those and went up to Dubai for the night. We stayed in a hotel down in Dubai Marina, an area we haven't really explored together before.

Our private driver took us most of the way there, although Nathan took over just before Dubai and it was on him to park the Ram in the teeny, tiny parking garage under the hotel. Luckily.

We went for an afternoon walk around the marina. Had some burgers and milkshakes for lunch down by the waterfront, and did a quick browse in the mall, but no one really wanted to be inside.

Instead we rented a small yacht, with a captain, to take us on a bit of a tiki tour around the marina for an hour. We went out just at sunset, so got the really beautiful light! We passed by the JBR beach and Bluewaters Island.

Got a good look of the new Ain Dubai observation wheel. At 250 m it is the world's largest and tallest observation wheel, and something I would like to do, even though I'm not super keen on heights.

This on the other hand - no thank you! It's the 'Dinner in the Sky' experience where you sit at a table which is suspended by a crane 50 m in the sky... Obviously you are strapped into your seat with a harness, but yes, your feet are dangling!

We continued our trip back into the marina. This marina is man-made, it is full of stunning and fascinating high-rises, and if you don't want to go by boat you can walk all the way around the marina along nice footpaths, stretching about 8 km.

It was a really perfect way to end the afternoon. Of course you can choose to do a dinner cruise or party cruise, there are endless options here. For us just doing a spot of sightseeing, an hour was just right! Then it was time for dinner, and an early night cosying up in our hotel rooms.
