After that totally failed week, my friend Kathleen saved my sanity and swooped me away to the Expo for the day yesterday. It was Belgian Day at the Expo, and she wanted to go see her King and Queen, who were visiting.
We were lucky enough to arrive to the Belgian pavilion just as the royals arrived for lunch there! Unfortunately we didn't get any good photos, so we went next door and had lunch in Thailand while we waited them out (yum!).
We then went back, flags in hand, when we saw the golf buggies gearing up next to the red carpet - and waited a bit more.
But it paid off! We were right there when they came out, and managed to get some really nice photos of King Filip and Queen Mathilde as they drove off!
Obviously I have no relation to these royals at all, but it was nice to be amongst all the proud Belgians and share my friend Kathleen's joy. She had never seen her King and Queen in the flesh before so it was pretty special for her!
