I would like to share the sad news that my Dad peacefully passed away yesterday afternoon at home here in Stenum. Though his passing at the age of 88 was not unexpected after such a long and full life, it was deeply sad to say goodbye.
My Dad fought cancer for the past many years. He responded well to his treatment and medicine for a surprisingly long time, until around May this year, when he started to deteriorate rapidly. I came home over the summer to spend as much time with him as possible, and help out so that he could stay living at home, as that was what both he and my Mum wanted for him.
I am now trying to hold on to gratitude - for the privilege of having been able to spend so much time in Sweden lately and for the fact that the whole family was able to be here to make some last memories together all of us. These past months by my Dad's side in his final chapter have been a gift.
I am also so grateful that I could support my Mum with his care, and for being with him at the very end. My heart is heavy, but I take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace.
